Gender Assessment and Mainstreaming
CDS recognizes gender inequality is a significant constraint in development. Gender and Development is one of the key approaches and underlying theme of CDS' activities. We provide support to organizations to ensure gender is integrated into all phases of theier program and/or project to enable women and men to participate and benefit equally from development initiatives.
This support can consist of building the long term organizational capacity to mainstream gender throughout the organization, a program or project, or provide shorter term input into a separate component such as conducting Gender Needs Assessment. We also to provide training in the Gender and Development concept as well as gender mainstreaming for NGO's. Examples of our experience in Gender Assessment and Mainstreaming include:
The Alliance for Arab Women approached CDS to conduct a qualitative and quantitative situational analysis for women's participation in ten different Water Users' Associations in Fayoum governorate, as well as design training manuals on the means of integrating gender in water resource management. CDS produced two training manuals on gender mainstreaming in Water Users' Associations. The first was a manual targeting professionals at the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation, while the second targeted the members of the Water Users' Associations. In addition to this, a TOT was conducted on how to effectively use these manuals. (2010)
